susan's story:
a therapist shaped by experience,
not just training
drawn to this work early, committed to it ever since
Susan’s path to becoming a therapist was not linear, and that matters. As a teenager, Susan experienced firsthand what it feels like to be misunderstood and struggling without the language to explain why.
Therapy became a turning point, offering something she hadn’t felt before: being truly heard and validated. That experience planted an early seed. She knew, even then, that this work could be life-changing.
Years later, after building a successful career outside of mental health, Susan returned to graduate school to pursue her Master of Social Work in New York City. Her first day of classes was September 11, 2001.
Beginning her clinical training during a moment of profound collective trauma reshaped how she understood safety, loss, and the nervous system’s response to overwhelming events. It clarified something essential: trauma does not exist in isolation. It affects individuals, families, communities, and the world around us.
That perspective continues to inform her work today. Susan practices trauma counseling in Glendale that honors resilience without minimizing pain, and offers hope without bypassing the hard parts.

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE & AREAS OF FOCUS
Susan brings decades of experience from community mental health, supervisory roles, and private practice. Her background includes extensive work with both children and adults impacted by complex trauma, attachment disruptions, and relational wounds.
Over time, her work evolved to focus primarily on adults and couples, drawing on:

TRAUMA-INFORMED THERAPY

ATTACHMENT-FOCUSED APPROACHES

EMDR THERAPY

parts work & mindfulness based techniques

cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt)
Susan has also pursued advanced training beyond traditional social work education, including specialized trauma certification and extensive continuing education in abuse, and attachment-related trauma.
As a therapist for adults, couples and LGBTQ+ individuals in Glendale, Susan offers care that is informed by both clinical expertise and lived understanding, including her own experience as a therapy client. This dual perspective allows her to work with sensitivity, humility, and realism.
what makes resilient rainbow therapy different?
Many clients who seek out Resilient Rainbow Therapy arrive feeling cautious, guarded, or unsure. Some have been told their experiences were “too complex.” Others worry about losing control in therapy or being pushed before they’re ready.
Susan’s approach is different.
Whether sessions take place in person or through secure virtual therapy, the focus remains the same: safety, choice, and respect for your nervous system.
-
You remain in control. Susan serves as a trusted guide, while you decide the pace and direction.
-
Safety comes first. Sessions, including virtual therapy, are carefully attuned to regulation and grounding, allowing you to engage from a space that feels most comfortable to you.
-
You are not treated as a diagnosis. Your reactions are explored in context, with respect for how and why they developed.
-
Depth without overwhelm. The work goes deep, but never faster than your system can handle.
Resilient Rainbow Therapy is designed for people who want to feel understood, not fixed, with the option to receive care through virtual therapy when that feels more supportive.
